Leicester's Claudio Ranieri unlikely to leave for Italy job - Demetrio Albertini

Demetrio Albertini believes Claudio Ranieri would be a good choice to replace Antonio Conte as Italy manager after Euro 2016, although he says it is unlikely Leicester City would release him.

Albertini, who was beaten by Carlo Tavecchio to the presidency of the Italian Football Association in 2014, has at the same time ruled out the candidacy of Sassuolo coach Eusebio De Francesco, saying that Italy need somebody with experience to lead them to the 2018 World Cup.

"I would have said Fabio Capello, but he's already ruled himself out and it's not an easy choice," former AC Miland and Italy midfielder Albertini told RAI radio.

"I don't think that Di Francesco's right for the national team. He's a good coach, he's young and I really like him a lot, but there are different tasks when you are in charge of a national team.

"Claudio Ranieri has also been touted, but I don't think Leicester are going to let him go after what he has done."

Ranieri, 64, is on the verge of guiding Leicester to a historic Premier League title.

His last role before joining the Foxes ended in failure, however, as he oversaw defeats to Faroe Islands, Northern Ireland and Romania as coach of the Greece national team, who missed out on qualification for Euro 2016 as a result.

Greece reached the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup, but Ranieri's record read one draw in four matches, that coming in Finland in October 2014.

Italy qualified for Euro 2016 without losing a game, but Conte confirmed he would not be renewing his contract after two years in charge and it was recently announced that he will be taking over at Ranieri's former club Chelsea from the summer.
