Italy in no rush to find replacement for Chelsea-bound Antonio Conte

The president of the Italian Football Association (FIGC) Carlo Tavecchio says he has not yet given much thought to who will replace Antonio Conte from the summer.

Conte will leave his position in charge of the Italy national team when his contract expires at the end of Euro 2016 and join Chelsea on a three-year contract.

On Tuesday, the 46-year-old paid his future club a visit and Tavecchio admitted he was not in the loop about his movements.

"I didn't know," he told reporters at the Premio Bearzot awards' ceremony. "He's respected his contract and we knew two years ago that he would leave at its expiry in 2016.

"We're happy with his work, but there are plenty more fish in the sea. Conte didn't want to extend his contract and we've taken that on board. I'm just taking a break for reflection before finding a solution with my assistants."

One of those candidates could be Leicester City's Claudio Ranieri, who was named the winner of the Enzo Bearzot award for the best Italian coach of the season. Tavecchio lavished praise on the 64-year-old, who is closing in on his first Premier League title.

"His name is symbolic with Italian excellence abroad," Tavecchio said. "This season more than in any other he has confirmed his extraordinary gift as a footballing master and tireless motivator, showing that with a cohesive group of players, you can obtain great results, despite lacking a so-called top player."
