Italy's Giuseppe Rossi hopes for Euro 2016 call-up after Levante loan

Giuseppe Rossi still hopes to break into the Italy squad ahead of Euro 2016 after finding form again following a loan move to Levante.

United States-born Rossi, 29, featured only fleetingly for Fiorentina this season and, without a goal to his name, he was sent out on loan to Spain in the winter.

He has found the back of the net twice in five appearances for the Spanish club and hopes he can still attract the attention of Italy coach Antonio Conte.

"After a month here, I can definitely say that I'm happy with this choice," Rossi said at a news conference. "Levante are giving me a lot, right from day one. This is what I was asking for -- I needed to feel this faith. Each day which passes, I try to give even more.

"[Playing at the European Championship] is every footballer's dream. It would be great to take part in it with Italy. I never made it in the past due to injuries, but everything depends now on what I do with Levante. If I give it my best and keep improving, I hope I can return to the Squadra Azzurra."

Rossi only just missed out on a place in Italy's World Cup squad two years ago. After fighting to be fit in time, and being named in the extended squad, he was ultimately unable to prove to then Italy coach Cesare Prandelli that he was fit enough to go to Brazil.

The former Manchester United and Villarreal striker is now enjoying one of his longest spells without an injury, though.

"I needed to be playing and have this opportunity," he said. "I want to give it my best for this club."

Rossi has been capped 29 times by Italy and scored seven goals. He has not played for Italy since May 2014, while his last international goal was in November 2013.
