Italy's Gigi Buffon, Lorenzo De Silvestri injured in draw with Croatia

Italy goalkeeper Gigi Buffon needed 10 stitches after Italy's draw against Croatia on Friday, while defender Lorenzo De Silvestri will undergo tests on his knee.

Buffon was injured as Mario Mandzukic followed through on his goal and his spikes made contact with the goalkeeper.

Salvatore Sirigu replaced Buffon to start the second half.

"Buffon had a nasty cut to his knee and I needed to put in at least 10 stitches," Italy's team doctor Enrico Castellacci told Rai Sport. "That incident occurred during the goal."

De Silvestri left the pitch on a stretcher in the 27th minute after making a block in the box on Croatia's Mateo Kovacic.

"De Silvestri had a pretty violent knee sprain, so he will clearly return to Genoa for tests with his club," Castellacci said about the Sampdoria right-back. "That movement of the knee is worrying"
