Inter Milan ultras criticise 'little man' Koulibaly, deny abuse was racial

Paolo Bandini and Mina Rzouki discuss the abuse aimed at Kalidou Koulibaly during Napoli's 1-0 defeat to Internazionale on this weeks' Serie Awesome podcast.

Inter Milan fans located in the Curva Nord of the San Siro have branded Kalidou Koulibaly a "little man" and slammed their club for the way they dealt with sanctions for the racial abuse the Napoli defender received.

Fans returned to San Siro on Sunday for the first time following the Boxing Day incidents which saw Inter forced to play two games behind closed doors, and a further with the Curva Nord closed.

Greeting fans at the stadium ahead of their 1-0 defeat to Bologna was a fanzine in which they said Koulibaly got what he deserved -- unlike them, who they feel were not defended by their club.

"We don't care about racism, we go to the stadium to support our players, be it Keita [Balde], who is black, [Danilo] D'Ambrosio, who is from the south, [Samir] Handanovic, who is Slovenian, or Lautaro [Martinez], who is Argentinian," it reportedly said.

"For us, Koulibaly was a little man who resorted to lies to clear his conscience. If he'd been white, yellow or blue, we would have behaved in the same way. San Siro booed Koulibaly for an unacceptable gesture [in applauding the referee after being booked]."

Inter accepted Serie A's sanctions without appeal and subsequently launched a campaign entitled Brothers Universally United, using the acronym "BUU" to echo the monkey chants while insisting the word should only ever be used in a positive way.

This also drew criticism from Inter's ultras, who have branded their club "ridiculous."

"The thing that shocks us the most is Inter's behaviour, accepting the sporting court's decision and denying us the opportunity to see games we had already paid for," they wrote. "It doesn't end there, because against Sassuolo they covered the Meazza [stadium] with 'Buu' banners which were not only in bad taste, but a slap in the face. It's ridiculous."
