Benevento keeper on goal against AC Milan: I closed my eyes, hoped for best

Benevento goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli felt justice was served after he scored a sensational last-gasp goal against AC Milan to earn the Campania club their first point of the season in Serie A on Sunday.

Benevento, who set a new league record by losing their first 14 games of the season, were trailing Milan in the final seconds of stoppage time when their goalkeeper produced a diving header from a free kick to secure a 2-2 draw.

"I was just thinking: it was 2-1, the 95th minute, we had nothing to lose -- I went up, closed my eyes and leapt," Brignoli told Sky Sport Italia. "It was certainly more of a goalkeeper's dive than a striker's.

"It's hard to describe. I just went up there and hoped for the best."

The draw still leaves Benevento languishing at the foot of Serie A with just one point, but Brignoli felt it was the least they deserved against the Rossoneri, whose new coach Gennaro Gattuso was unable to turn their fortunes around on his debut.

"I'm delighted for the fans, the players and the president," Brignoli, 26, said. "It would have been awful to lose this -- we've already lost so many in the last second which we really didn't deserve to lose, like at Sassuolo.

"We got some payback today. We've proven we can hold our own against anyone -- we just need the breaks to go our way."
