Sampdoria defeat Genoa in Derby della Lantern; Bologna woes worsen

Gaston Ramirez and Fabio Quagliarella fired Sampdoria to a 2-0 Serie A win at Genoa in the Derby della Lanterna.

Former Southampton and Middlesbrough forward Ramirez and Sampdoria captain Quagliarella pounced either side of half-time, as the visitors left the Stadio Luigi Ferraris with the bragging rights.

Colombia forward Duvan Zapata laid on both goals as Marco Giampaolo's men secured their fourth win in five Serie A matches, to stay sixth in the table.

Ramirez opened the scoring on 24 minutes, latching onto a cushioned header from Zapata to slot home with his right foot.

Zapata turned provider again for the goal that sealed the game, this time playing in Quagliarella, who made no mistake in burying his shot, with just six minutes left of normal time.

Ramirez claimed his first goal of the season in his 11th appearance, while Quagliarella pounced for his seventh league goal of the campaign, and his third in four matches.

Genoa in contrast slumped to their third-straight defeat and fourth game without a win, to remain third from bottom in the standings.

Crotone inflicted a fourth loss in a row on Bologna, the visitors edging the home side 3-2.

Ante Budimir struck twice, with Marcello Trotta converting a penalty.

Simone Verdi bagged a brace for the hosts, but that proved in vain, as Crotone secured their first win in five matches.
