Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio set to return from injury

Claudio Marchisio is set to make his first appearance since suffering a knee injury six months ago when Juventus host Sampdoria on Wednesday.

Italy midfielder Marchisio tore knee ligaments after getting his foot stuck in the turf while turning in at the Juventus Stadium in a game against Palermo on April 17, ruling him out of Euro 2016.

He is now set to return against Sampdoria on Wednesday and coach Massimiliano Allegri told a news conference: "Marchisio gives us a big boost with his return, but let's not forget that Claudio has been out for six months and I hope that between now and the winter break in December, he can play half of our games.

"I would be truly delighted if that were the case. It's difficult for him to play consistently because when a player has been out for six months, he needs time to recover. Maybe he has a good comeback but then has a dip, so we've got to be very careful, particularly in not running any risks of injury."

Marchisio should feature at the heart of a much-changed Juve side, with Allegri rotating in view of a fixture pile-up that sees his side host Napoli on Saturday night, Lyon next Wednesday and travel to Chievo five days later.

With Paulo Dybala set to miss all of those games, Mario Mandzukic will be given a chance alongside Gonzalo Higuain, with Allegri confirming they will lead the line against Sampdoria, while backup goalkeeper Neto will stand in for Gianluigi Buffon, who has been given a few days of rest.
