Sassuolo deny Milan approach for coach Eusebio Di Francesco

Eusebio Di Francesco has not been approached about taking over at AC Milan next season, according to Sassuolo's sporting director Giovanni Carnevali.

The Sassuolo coach has emerged as one of the leading candidates to replace Sinisa Mihajlovic on the Rossoneri bench, should the Serbian fail to lead the club into Europe and consequently be relieved of his duties in the summer.

Di Francesco could force that decision with Sassuolo just five points behind Milan with eight games of the season remaining, and their closest challengers for Serie A's final qualifying berth for the Europa League next season.

However, if he were to succeed in leading Sassuolo into Europe at Milan's expense, Di Francesco would be the man to guide the Emilia-Romagna club around the continent, according to Carnevali, who has ruled out him moving to Milan.

"I speak to [Milan's general manager Adriano] Galliani often and we have a great, friendly relationship, but we have never touched on the subject of Di Francesco, nor the future of [Domenico] Berardi," he told Sportitalia.

"Today, I would say there is a very strong possibility [of keeping hold of Di Francesco] because he is our coach and he has a contract for next season with us. We know that contracts nowadays only have a relative importance, but we have a great relationship with our coach.

"We know that there could be bigger clubs out there for him, and I think that our coach also has great ambitions. But we know that we're a club with serious, ambitious plans and we are able to give assurances for the future. I don't think there are many clubs around who could offer our coach this kind of security."
