Juventus top Inter Milan in Derby d'Italia; Bologna get precious point

Juventus extended their Serie A lead to four points over rival Napoli after a 2-0 defeat of Inter Milan in Turin on Sunday.

The Bianconeri, who snapped their 15-match Serie A win streak last weekend, got back on track in the Derby d'Italia at Juventus Stadium.

The game was scoreless up until the 47th minute, when Juve defender Leonardo Bonucci swept home his right-footed shot from a set piece to give the home side the advantage.

Juventus then added insurance six minutes from time. Inter's Miranda took down Alvaro Morata in the box, awarding the Juve striker a penalty. And it was the Spaniard who stepped up and slotted past Samir Handanovic for the points.

Goalkeeper Josip Posavec kept Bologna at bay as Palermo banked a precious point in a 0-0 draw in their bid to retain their Serie A status.

Posavec produced a series of saves, including one in stoppage time to deny substitute Franco Brienza a last-gasp winner, to ensure that the visitors had to settle for a goalless draw on a day when Emanuele Giaccherini saw a series of opportunities go begging.

Palermo, who had chances of their own, eased themselves four points clear of the drop zone after the early kickoff, but are now without a win in six attempts, while Bologna remain comfortable in mid-table.

A solitary Lucas Castro goal fired Chievo back into the top half of the table as Genoa went down 1-0 at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.

After a dire first half devoid of clear-cut chances, the Flying Donkeys took the lead when Castro leapt at Fabrizio Cacciatore's cross to head past Mattia Perin in the visitors' goal.

A third defeat in five games leaves Gian Piero Gasperini's Grifone sitting only five points clear of the relegation zone.

Vincenzo Montella's Sampdoria pulled five points clear of the drop zone after securing a 2-0 home win over relegation rivals Frosinone.

The promoted southerners would have escaped the bottom three with victory at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris but Fernando's deflected goal just before half-time poured cold water on their survival bid.

Later, with 20 minutes remaining in Genoa, Fabio Quagliarella confirmed Samp's first win in nine attempts by scoring his second goal for the club. Frosinone keeper Nicola Leali had produced a superb save to keep out Quagliarella's original attempt but could do nothing about the subsequent tap-in.

Udinese struck a blow to Hellas Verona's unlikely survival bid by beating the basement boys 2-0 at the Stadio Friuli.

Verona did not win a league game until February but last weekend's derby victory over Chievo gave some hope they could escape the bottom three.

However, goals from Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Cyril Thereau in either half of a lively encounter left Hellas nine points adrift of safety. Agyemang-Badu opened the scoring with a close-range header in the 31st minute and, shortly before the hour mark, Thereau tucked away Antonio Di Natale's cross at the second time of asking.

Simone Verdi's second-half penalty earned relegation-threatened Carpi a valuable share of the points from a 1-1 draw with Atalanta.

Carpi dominated the first half at the Stadio Alberto Braglia but went behind seven minutes after the restart as Jasmin Kurtic steered Marco D'Alessandro's cross-cum-shot beyond Vid Belec.

The promoted team were, however, handed the chance to level in the 76th minute. Marco Borriello fouled Fabrizio Poli in the Atalanta box and Verdi gratefully stepped up to rifle the ball past Marco Sportiello.
