Andrea Pirlo to Inter Milan 'a very good idea' - ex-president Massimo Moratti

Former Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti says the signing of Andrea Pirlo to a short-term deal with the nerazzurri would be a "good idea."

Pirlo is currently plying his trade with New York City FC of MLS after long a career in Serie A with AC Milan and Juventus among others.

The 36-year-old helped Juve to a Champions League final appearance last season before moving across the Atlantic for the United States. Recent rumours have linked the midfielder to an Inter move, and Moratti believes his former club would benefit from Pirlo's presence in the team.

"I'm very pleased with this Inter," Moratti told Gazzetta.it.

"Winning important matches means having deserved security -- I send an affectionate greeting to everyone.

"Pirlo? It's a very good idea, I find it very interesting."

Moratti, 69, sold a majority shareholding stake in October 2013 to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir, and has recently denied rumours that he is considering buying the club back. On Thursday, he said he and Thohir haven't spoken about his role within the club.

"I haven't spoken with Thohir about my role in the club, neither of us wanted to.

"I'm willing to sell my shares, but not with an arm wrestle.

"Would I be willing to stay? Of course, Inter and always Inter."
