Napoli are better than us, says AC Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic

AC Milan manager Sinisa Mihajlovic has conceded that his side are not on the same level as Napoli, who handed rossoneri a humiliating 4-0 home loss on Sunday.

Italy international Lorenzo Insigne scored twice and set up another as the Naples side emphatically ended Milan's unbeaten home start to the season. And for Mihajlovic, the defeat was precisely what his team deserved.

"I know it's bad to say this, but it is the truth: we lost to a Napoli side that is better than us. There's little more to say than that," Mihajlovic said after the game.

"The first half was fairly balanced, but you cannot make certain errors in Serie A, especially against strikers of this level.

"I am in debt with [CEO Adriano] Galliani and [President Silvio] Berlusconi and will be for my whole life. I am grateful to them and it disappoints me to get these results. It above all disappoints the players.

"It was a bad defeat, but a fully deserved one. Compliments to Napoli and Maurizio Sarri. After going 2-0 down, we no longer had the strength to react.

"The team that we faced tonight plays the best football in Serie A. They are strong and we knew that. The difference was made by their strikers and our defensive movements.

"We are somewhere in between, so we don't defend or attack well. During the week we tried lots of different things, but in a match situation it can go differently."

Mihajlovic's men sit 12th in the Serie A table, six points away from a Champions League place and far from where they'd hoped after making a number of signings in the summer transfer window to bolster the squad.

"This is a difficult situation and we have to continue working," he said. Evidently 100 percent is not enough, we have to give more. We mustn't lose hope, as whittling down the errors -- which for the most part are individual -- can change a great deal."

Insigne experienced a memorable day with the pair of goals, but stressed the importance of the win.

"I am very happy, because it's my first brace for Napoli and above all to do it in this stadium, which in my mind is the most beautiful in Italy," Insigne said.

"I am happy to have helped bring a victory for Napoli. It doesn't matter who scores, the important thing is to win games and make the fans happy."
