Inter Milan cannot miss out on European football again - Mauro Icardi

Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi has said his side ensure a place in Europe next season after a perfect start to the Serie A campaign.

Inter have won all five of their Serie A matches so far this season, and Icardi, 22, said he believed finishing third should be their minimum aim.

"It's fantastic," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Being up at the top above all helps us to be more serene during the week, and this helps us a lot."

Inter have not enjoyed such form since Jose Mourinho guided them to a treble in 2010, and Icardi said: "We've had a revolution with 10 new players -- we've drawn a line under the past and worked on creating a great new group.

"With time, we're only going to get better. We've still got to play our best football. We're getting a lot of possession, but we need to raise the bar. We need to be quicker, considering we're already aggressive enough."

He said securing third was "the minimum objective for a club who have made such big investments," saying Inter "cannot spend another season without European football."

The club host second-placed Fiorentina on Sunday, when they could potentially put 13 points between themselves and struggling defending champions Juventus.

"Everybody's surprised to see the Bianconeri in the second half of the table," Icardi said.

"We, on the other hand, wanted to start strongly -- but maybe we didn't expect to start this well. But how great it is to be up there."
