Sampdoria president: Pulvirenti should be banned forever after fixing

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has launched a scathing attack on the president of Serie B club Catania, Antonino Pulvirenti, after the latter admitted fixing five of his side's matches for €100,000 each last season.

Pulvirenti is currently facing both criminal and sporting charges and Ferrero hopes he is punished severely on both accounts for what he has done.

"Pulvirenti should be banned from football forever," he told Radio 24. "How can he even dare to do things like that, soiling the game of football? Some people really are disgraceful. He's got to die; he shouldn't exist anymore.

"He and his team have got to be banned -- the whole lot of them. They're horrid people. It's not on. He's got to die and none of these folk should be saved. Somebody who dares to sell football matches should be getting slapped every single day, by everybody."

Ferrero gave equally short shrift to Lazio president Claudio Lotito, who offered Pulvirenti words of advice by telling him to find an exorcist.

"Lotito's a good person, but he works too hard and trusts everybody. The only advice I would take from him is where to find the best fresh fish," Ferrero said. "That's as far as I would let him go in giving advice because he's not good enough to advise anything else to anybody."
