Roma's Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa attacked by Lazio fans - report

Roma defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is reported to have been attacked by Lazio fans in the Italian capital on Sunday night.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the French defender was confronted by a couple of fans in the city centre after he had just left a bar. He tried to get away but was chased and attacked before police arrived and his assailants fled.

The player reportedly told police that those who had attacked him had identified themselves as Lazio fans. He said they had insulted him before trying to hit him with belts.

Yanga-Mbiwa, whose goal decided the Eternal City derby in Roma's favour a week ago, was reportedly uninjured in the attack.

Roma finished second in Serie A this season, just a point ahead of Lazio, who were third.

Both sides will represent Serie A in the Champions League next season with Lazio securing their place after beating Napoli 4-2 on Sunday.
