Torino match against Empoli moved due to Superga anniversary

MILAN -- Torino's home match against Empoli has been pushed back a day, as it falls on the 66th anniversary of the Superga air disaster which claimed 31 lives.

The match was originally scheduled to take place on May 4, but will now be played the following day.

In 1949, the 'Grande Torino' side -- which had won five successive league titles -- were returning to Turin after playing a friendly against Benfica when their plane crashed into the hillside of Superga, killing all 31 people on board.

Serie A's governing body confirmed it had changed the fixture on Tuesday.
