Hellas Verona striker Luca Toni to make decision on his future in summer

Hellas Verona striker Luca Toni has not ruled out adding another season onto his career, although he says he will make his mind up lying on a beach somewhere this summer.

Toni, 37, moved on to 13 goals for the season, with eight of them coming in 2015, following his brace in Sunday's 2-0 Serie A defeat of Napoli.

That has taken him to 33 in total for Hellas -- one more than club legend Preben Elkjaer and just two short of the side's record holder Emiliano Mascetti -- while he has joined the company of Christian Vieri on 142 Serie A goals.

"If I manage to break [Mascetti's] record, I'll be even happier because numbers like that allow you to leave a mark," Toni is quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport. "But my priority is always the team. We're closer to safety now and we've got to keep fighting."

In this kind of form -- only Carlos Tevez and Mauro Icardi have scored more this season in Serie A -- there would be little reason for the former Fiorentina and Bayern Munich forward to hang up his boots in the summer.

However, he says the ability to still score goals is not all that he will judge his future on.

"At my age, it takes me a lot longer to recover from the efforts of a game," he added. "I don't know if I'm going to carry on or not. I'm used to sitting down and discussing things with my dear ones when the time is right and not before.

"This summer I'll go on holiday with my family because it's been a while since we managed to go away together, and we'll decide then. But the truth is, it's been four years now that it's been my last season, yet I'm still here, so who knows.

"Right now, let me go home because I want to be with my family. I'll be delighted with them for this great win. We've emerged from a difficult period and we don't want to go back there."
