Paul Pogba stars in Juventus victory; Roma draw; Inter lose to Torino

Paul Pogba scored one goal and created another as Serie A leaders Juventus beat Chievo 2-0.

Former Manchester United midfielder Pogba unlocked a tense battle in Turin with a well-struck opener on the hour mark before helping Stephan Lichtsteiner tuck away a second in the 74th minute.

The victory boosts Massimiliano Allegri's men seven points clear in the table.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina's Mario Gomez rediscovered his goalscoring touch in Serie A to keep second-place Roma choking in the title race.

The striker, signed from Bayern Munich for 20 million euros in 2013, has struggled against injuries and poor form but doubled his tally for the league campaign with a first-half opener on Sunday evening.

Even though Roma did manage to level through former Viola midfielder Adem Ljajic following the restart, they had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Emiliano Moretti's last-gasp winner earned Torino a 1-0 victory at Inter Milan.

Moretti headed home his first goal of the season deep into stoppage time to drop Inter further off the pace in the hunt for a third-place finish.

Inter, who have won just one of their last five league games, have dropped to ninth place, eight points adrift of Lazio, who are third and hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.

Sampdoria teammates play out a 1-1 draw with Palermo at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris after completing a medical.

The 33-year-old Cameroonian is poised to officially swap Everton for Genoa as Samp bid to harness his firepower and qualify for the Champions League, and he was in the Marassi stands on Sunday.

Eder's early opener temporarily boosted them into third place but Franco Vazquez hit back after the break and eighth-placed Palermo were unlucky not to turn their second-half dominance into a victory.

But with 34 points from 20 games, Sinisa Mihaljovic's Samp climb above Napoli and into fourth place.

A late goal from substitute Alejandro Rodriguez allowed Cesena to halt an 18-match winless run in Serie A with a 2-1 triumph over fellow strugglers Parma.

The game at Stadio Ennio Tardini looked to be heading for a draw after Emmanuel Cascione's own goal with 14 minutes remaining cancelled out Nico Pulzetti's opener.

However, Rodriguez came to the rescue for the visitors, scoring the winner one minute from time to hand Cesena their first win since the opening day.

The victory, Cesena's first on the road, has lifted the Seahorses above Parma and into 19th place, where they are seven points adrift of safety.

Elsewhere on Sunday afternoon, the well-travelled Javier Saviola opened his goalscoring account for Hellas Verona, his 53rd-minute goal proving enough to secure a 1-0 home victory over Atalanta.
