Sampdoria president punished for Erick Thohir comment

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has been banned for three months for his discriminatory remark about Inter Milan's Indonesian owner Erick Thohir, the Italian Football Federation has announced.

The FIGC also said Ferrero had been fined 10,000 euros for calling Thohir "that Filipino," while Samp have been fined 35,000 euros.

Speaking on television show Stadio Sprint in October, Ferrero said he told Massimo Moratti, Thohir's predecessor as Inter president who stepped down as honorary president that month, to "kick out that Filipino," in reference to Thohir.

When told by the presenter that Thohir was in fact from Indonesia, Ferrero added: "He has insulted an emblem of Italian football."

Ferrero, who had been animatedly explaining how unhappy he was at Moratti's treatment, apologised for his comments afterwards.

The FIGC confirmed in an official statement that its disciplinary committee had handed down the sanction.
