TURIN, Italy -- Juventus midfielder Romulo will be sidelined for a month after a hernia operation.

The Serie A side say Romulo underwent "successful bilateral sports hernia surgery in Monaco" on Tuesday, and is expected to be back in action in 30 days.

Romulo has played just seven minutes for Juventus since signing on loan from Hellas Verona in the summer.

Juventus have the option to sign the 27-year-old on a permanent deal, and that becomes mandatory if he plays at least 60 percent of this season's games.

Romulo, who was born in Brazil but has an Italian passport, was selected for the Azzurri's squad for the World Cup in his homeland. However, he gave up his spot as he did not feel 100 percent fit.
