Roma, Italy midfielder Daniele De Rossi out for a month with calf injury

ROME -- Roma and Italy midfielder Daniele De Rossi will likely be out for a month due to a first-degree tear of his left calf muscle, meaning he will miss next week's Champions League clash at Manchester City.

Medical tests on Tuesday revealed the extent of the problem after De Rossi was injured late in a 2-0 win over Cagliari at the weekend.

De Rossi will likely miss Serie A matches against Parma, Hellas Verona and champions Juventus as well as next week's Group E game at the Etihad Stadium. He could also sit out Italy's European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Malta on Oct. 10 and 13, respectively.

Roma have won their opening four matches of the season but have a growing list of injured players, with Juan Iturbe, Davide Astori, Leandro Castan, Kevin Strootman, Federico Balzaretti and Marco Borriello all out of action.
