Mario Balotelli has issued an emotional statement to AC Milan following his move from the Serie A club to Liverpool.

Balotelli, 24, completed his transfer to the Reds on Monday and was in attendance as his new side lost 3-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium later that evening.

The Italy international scored 30 goals in 54 games for Milan after joining from City in January 2013, and he took time out on Tuesday to thank the club's fans and players for the support they gave him during his spell at the San Siro.

"I am about to begin a new chapter but first I have to thank Milan fans that have always shown incredible loyalty and great trust in me," he said in a statement on Milan's official website.

"I also want to thank all the staff members that have always supported me and have always shown extraordinary patience throughout my whole stay at Milan.

"The biggest thank you goes to my teammates, who have put up with me on and off the pitch, as only my family are able to do. I will always appreciate your camaraderie, I have learned so much from all of you.

"I leave Milan with sadness, but know that I will still make you all proud going forward. Forza Milan! Thank you Milan!''

Milan in turn released another statement on their official website wishing Balotelli well as he embarks on his new adventure in England.

"We worked well together, Mario. We've been happy to have had you here and for this we say goodbye and thank you," the statement read.

"In one-year-and-a-half you've achieved a lot. You were decisive in our qualification for the Champions League in 2013 and were our top scorer last season. This is what your Milan thinks of you and this is our chance to confirm it publicly.

"There have been lots of memorable moments. The goal-scoring debut versus Udinese, that late winner versus Torino at the San Siro in May last year, the decisive goal against Siena and the screamer against Bologna on Valentine's Day at the San Siro.

"Thank you for everything and for what you have done at the club. We wish you the very best of luck for your next sporting and professional adventure."

Balotelli, who is Liverpool's ninth reinforcement this summer, is set to make his debut on Sunday against Tottenham at White Heart Lane.
