AC Milan and Lazio win to reach quarterfinals of Coppa Italia

AC Milan advanced to the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia by securing a 2-0 victory over 10-man Sampdoria at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, M'Baye Niang put Milan ahead five minutes after the break.

And things got tougher for Sampdoria in the 64th minute when Ervin Zukanovic received his marching orders for a second yellow card.

Carlos Bacca then made sure of progression for Milan when he doubled their advantage three minutes into stoppage time.

In the next round, Milan will face Carpi, who won at Fiorentina on Wednesday.

Second-half goals from Alessandro Matri and Danilo Cataldi sent Lazio into the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over Udinese.

Panagiotis Kone opened the scoring in the 67th minute to put the visitors ahead but the lead lasted only three minutes before Matri hauled Lazio level.

And Cataldi settled the tie 11 minutes from time as Lazio booked a last-eight meeting with Juventus.

Also in the quarterfinals, set for Jan. 20, Inter will host Napoli, while Serie B's Spezia will face third-tier Alessandria.
