AC Milan advance in Coppa Italia; Chievo stunned in extra time

Luiz Adriano opened his goal scoring account for AC Milan in a 2-0 win over Perugia in the Coppa Italia on Monday.

Keisuke Honda also scored as Sinisa Mihajlovic won his first competitive game in charge of the Rossoneri.

Honda was left free to score in the 10th minute after an Adriano dummy, and the Brazilian striker scored his first since his move from Shakhtar Donetsk in the 28th minute.

Carlos Bacca sent a back-heeled pass to Honda, who put Luiz Adriano through to score with his left foot.

Milan had numerous other chances to make it 3-0, but there was to be no further scoring, even after Davide Lanzafame was sent off for the Serie B side after 65 minutes.

The other cup game on Monday produced a surprise as Chievo Verona lost to Salernitana 1-0 after extra time.

The second-division side found the breakthrough in the closing seconds when Andrea Bovo scored in the 121st minute.

Chievo joined Bologna, Empoli and Frosinone as Series A sides to crash out of the competition early.

The third round concludes on Thursday when Catania host Cesena. The fourth round will take place in December.
