Inter Milan president Erick Thohir: I am only a witness in corruption probe

Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has confirmed that he gave evidence in an investigation over alleged corruption relating to the 2018 Asian Games, but said he was only a witness.

Thohir, the president of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, has been asked to collaborate with authorities investigating alleged corruption behind the organisation of next year's Games.

Earlier this month, he said he would have no problems about going to prison if found guilty of illegal behaviour, but has now said too much is being made of his role in the inquiry.

"I've been questioned by the police, but in any case, my answer remains the same -- as citizens, we must respect the law and the subjects of this process," Thohir told media in Indonesia, according to fcinternews.it.

"Certainly it is one's obligation to testify in a process when you are invited to do so.

"However, my status is merely that of a witness and not a suspect in the investigation. Nevertheless, I have been shocked by the way the whole thing has been politicised."

Thohir, 46, has been Inter president since 2013 and remained in the position even after the Suning group acquired almost 70 percent of the club last June.
