Inter Milan to stay and redevelop San Siro home - Javier Zanetti

Inter Milan vice president Javier Zanetti has dismissed recent speculation that club owners the Suning Group want to leave the San Siro and build a new stadium.

"We definitely want to stay at the San Siro and renovate it," Zanetti, speaking at a University of Milan conference, said.

"It's clearly the best choice for us. What we do want to build is a new, state of the art academy.

"We have a lot of projects as part of this new journey and we want to complete them."

Inter have already let Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala know that they wish to remain at the San Siro, whether or not AC Milan also opt to stay in the long term.

The club are keen to purchase the "Trotto" area of land adjacent to the stadium and build the new academy along with a hotel and a shopping centre.

Longer-term proposals would also see the first team's training base moved closer to the San Siro.

Zanetti, speaking about the financial and cultural relations between China and football, said he believed Suning were "a very ambitious group with a lot of respect for the club."

He added: "Together we are working to build something important that would enable us to go back to winning, as our fans deserve."
