Inter Milan president Erick Thohir promises 'one or two' new signings

Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has said he will provide backing for new coach Frank de Boer in the transfer market and thanked former boss Roberto Mancini for the job he did.

Thorir met De Boer on a visit to the club's Appiano Gentile training centre on Thursday and told Inter Channel he would make funds available for the Dutchman's transfer targets.

"We want to strengthen the team," he said. "We have signed [Antonio] Candreva already and we might be signing one or two more players, but it's important that these players are good for Inter.

"Of course Frank has the time to get to know the team. He has a new way of playing football, maybe different. Let's see."

De Boer officially replaced former Manchester City manager Mancini, who was relieved of his duties after 20 months in charge, on Monday.

It had been reported that he had not seen eye to eye with Thohir, but the president made a point of praising him for his efforts.

"I would like to say thank you to Roberto Mancini," he said. "Last year we improved a lot, but at the same time I mentioned to Frank that this is Inter and it is important that he works and shows the fans we are serious people and makes sure we come back into the Champions League."
