Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini targets Scudetto

After AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi said his club can challenge Juventus for the Serie A title next season, it was the turn of Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini to follow suit on Friday.

Mancini laid out his plans for the season at a news conference, and as is the case on the other half of the Lombardy city, the Nerazzurri are also aiming for the very top.

"We are Inter and our objective must always be to aim for the very best," Mancini said. "We've got to do things well. We start off behind Juventus, who hold the title, but we're going to give it our very best.

"Juve have dominated for the past four years, but I don't think the gap is that huge. We are here to reduce that gap.

"It will be the action on the field which will provide the answers. It's all well and good changing half of your team, but you only get to see the results at the end."

Inter have changed much of their playing squad with several new arrivals this summer already, including Geoffrey Kondogbia.

"He could become the best in the world," said Mancini, visibly satisfied to have secured his No. 1 transfer target. "After one or two huge names in his position in the world, he's next on the list and we made a big sacrifice to get him, but we've signed a really good player."

More could still follow, although Mancini has dismissed claims he has already spoken to Mohamed Salah, who has told Fiorentina he is not going back to them.

"I don't know who he belongs to right now," Mancini said. "I know he's a good player, but I've not spoken to him -- I've already run out of credit on my phone.

"For [Ivan] Perisic, talks are ongoing between Inter and Wolfsburg, but I don't know if anything has started yet for [Stevan] Jovetic with Manchester City."
