Mauro Icardi criticised by Mancini for not celebrating with Inter Milan fans

Mauro Icardi struck twice for Inter Milan against Palermo on Sunday.

Mauro Icardi went a long way to reconciling with Inter Milan fans with a match-winning performance against Palermo on Sunday night, but coach Roberto Mancini said he was wrong not to celebrate his goals.

Icardi, 21, was involved in a heated exchange with Inter supporters in Reggio Emilia a week ago following a 3-1 defeat to Sassuolo.

But while apologising to them for getting angry after they threw his shirt back at him, he was not in the mood for celebrating following his brace in the 3-0 victory at home to Palermo.

Instead, Icardi took the plaudits from his teammates, but sauntered back to the halfway line without acknowledging the Inter fans.

"My opinion is that you should always celebrate after scoring a goal," Mancini told Sky Sport Italia. "A goal is the end product of a team move. I don't think he's unhappy, I just think it's something which is still rankling with him from what happened last Sunday."

Fredy Guarin was also involved with Icardi in last week's altercation with fans and he too netted in Sunday's win -- a result which lifts the Nerazzurri above city rivals AC Milan and into 10th position in Serie A.

Guarin celebrated his goal by racing over to Mancini on the touchline and he received praise from his coach after the final whistle.

"He played well even in a two-man central midfield," Mancini said. "He's got the strength and the quality."

New arrival Marcelo Brozovic, however, was singled out for most of the praise by Mancini.

"I'm delighted for him," Mancini said. "He's not yet 100 percent fit and he still needs to settle into his new surroundings, but he's got great quality. We're delighted to have him.

"This was a great performance from us tonight and we need to carry on training and training well because things are now starting to turn for us, even our luck."

Inter next head to Atalanta before travelling to Cagliari, with key games against Fiorentina and Napoli then following, which will test their credentials for qualifying for a place in Europe next season.
