Xherdan Shaqiri: I joined Inter over Juventus due to Roberto Mancini

Xherdan Shaqiri says Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini convinced him to join the club over Juventus or a switch to the Premier League.

Shaqiri, 23, moved to the Nerazzurri from Bayern Munich last week in a deal worth a reported total of 15 million euros.

Inter are said to have signed the Switzerland international on loan until the end of the season, but with the obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer.

"When I decided to leave Bayern, my brother took a look around and Juve was one of the possibilities," Shaqiri said at a news conference. "In the end, though, Inter was the best solution for me.

"I also had offers from England and Germany, but I always knew what I wanted. I spoke on the phone with Mancini and he laid out his plans and from that moment, I had no doubts.

"Reading the papers, you get the impression that I was talking to lots of clubs, but it wasn't like that. Inter really wanted me and they offered me the best prospects. I wanted a new experience and I can't wait to start playing."

Shaqiri was on the bench for Inter's 3-1 win over Genoa last weekend and he will hope to play a part in Saturday's trip to Empoli, having made the move to get more game time than Pep Guardiola was giving him at Bayern.

"I can't wait for my debut," he added. "I'm training with the team and hopefully I'll play at Empoli. I've got a good feeling.

"I was not totally happy at Bayern. I need to play because that's the only way I can show my worth. This is why I'm delighted to be at Inter. I'm very hungry and I'll do everything to win something with this club.

"I wanted a new challenge and the aim is to return to the Champions League. I'm optimistic that we will manage to get back to the top again. Everybody knows Inter and their history and they are a side with great players who won the Champions League recently. I'm truly delighted to be here."
