France boss Deschamps: Samir Nasri does not meet expectations

France coach Didier Deschamps appears to have ruled out welcoming Samir Nasri back to the international fold, claiming his attitude is not good enough to warrant a recall.

Nasri has not played for Les Bleus since featuring in a World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in November 2013 and announced his international retirement in August after being overlooked for France's World Cup squad.

The Manchester City midfielder, who was handed a three-match ban for his behaviour during Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, took a recent swipe at Deschamps in an interview with L'Equipe, labelling the former Monaco, Juventus and Marseille boss a "hypocrite" and a "joker."

Euro 2016 hosts France lost to eventual winners Germany to exit the World Cup at the quarterfinal stage and have impressed in Nasri's absence to climb to eighth in the FIFA rankings.

Nasri claimed playing for France did not make him happy when he called time on his 41-cap international career last summer. And Deschamps, who extended his contract until 2018 earlier this month, appears unwilling to extend the olive branch to the 27-year-old former Arsenal and Marseille playmaker.

"When I select players, I talk with them -- I tell them what I expect of them and what I want on the field and off, of course," Deschamps, 46, told French radio station RMC on Monday.

"I had the opportunity each time to talk with him, to say what was wrong -- he did not hear or did not listen. I was taking a quality player but [he] did not meet my expectations in sport.

"Apparently, he says he is happier without the France team. If a person who is an example of sincerity, frankness told me something, I wonder, [but] it is not the case [with Nasri].

"The France team continues its life rather well indeed. Will he no longer be selected as long as I am coach? I do not even ask myself today."
