Wales to take part in 2018 China Cup as four-team lineup confirmed

Euro 2016 semifinalists Wales will join Czech Republic, Uruguay and the host nation at the China Cup in March, the Chinese Football Association has announced.

The four-team tournament, played from March 19-27, takes place in the southern Chinese city of Nanning.

"The China Cup will provide our national team with more opportunities to play with top foreign teams while also giving fans the chance to enjoy top level football at home," Qi Jun, the CFA director of competitions said in a statement.

"The competition fits with the FIFA international match days and means all participating teams can acquire many ranking points and, to achieve this, they will send their best lineups.

"For our coach, Marcello Lippi, this is an excellent opportunity for his team to improve."

Qi added that the event would provide important preparation for the next Asian Cup, which takes place in January 2019.

The China Cup is in its second year, with China having defeated Croatia on penalties in last year's final.
