Portugal's Fernando Santos: Belgium match shows football is not afraid

Portugal coach Fernando Santos says that the international friendly against Belgium on Tuesday night shows "football is not afraid" after the Brussels terror attacks last week.

Belgium were due to host Portugal at Brussels' King Baudouin Stadium on March 29, but city authorities asked the Belgian FA (KBVB) to call it off following the bomb attacks, which killed 35 people.

The KBVB had initially said that the game would not take place but later announced that an agreement had been reached to play the game in Leiria, Portugal. and Santos insists it was the right decision.

"It's very important the match is being held, and to organise it in Portugal is a very good solution," Santos said. "I don't get the impression that during the match the players are going to think about the tragedy and that they won't be able to get away from it during the game.

"The important thing is the signal this match gives, the signal is that football is not afraid, the people are not afraid."
