Christian Eriksen jokes about injuring Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen has joked that he hopes to injure international teammate Kasper Schmeichel this week in a bid to aid Tottenham's Premier League title bid.

Schmeichel's Leicester lead Spurs by five points with seven matches remaining in the least predictable title race in the history of the competition.

The Danish duo have joined forces for the upcoming international friendlies against Iceland and Scotland but Eriksen admits he hopes the Foxes goalkeeper -- who has recently been named Denmark's Player of the Year -- returns to domestic duty with an injury.

"I don't think there is anybody who doesn't follow the Premier League at the moment. I get so many comments from a lot of people who think it's incredibly exciting," the Spurs playmaker told Danish broadcaster TV2. "It's incredibly fun to play at the moment."

Asked about Spurs' chances of overhauling the Foxes, Eriksen replied: "We have to get Kasper injured first! He will of course get injured after having played two internationals.

"If anybody had put money on this situation before the season, then I just have to say 'Well done.' The fact that there are two Danes in the two clubs at the top makes it just even more exciting for you [the Danish media] and us."

Schmeichel, meanwhile, insists that Leicester, who were bottom of the league at this stage of last season, could never have dreamed of being champions but insists they deserve their accolades. "We just arrived in the Danish camp, so I haven´t spoken to Christian yet, but it is a fun scenario and exciting for the world of football," he said.

"I don't think we could have dreamt of being in this position but I always knew that we had a great team.

"We are not riding on a wave. We are a really good side. We deserve all the credit we can get."
