Thiago Alcantara ruled out of Belgium-Spain friendly with knee injury

Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara will miss Tuesday's friendly in Belgium after injuring his right knee during Friday's 2-0 home win over England.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has returned to his club after tests revealed swelling in the knee.

Thiago, 24, who has twice needed surgery on injured ligaments in his right knee, was replaced by Santi Cazorla after 25 minutes.

A statement from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said: "Taking into account the operations the player has undergone, and as a matter of prevention, it has been decided for the player to leave the Spain camp.

"He will have further tests and work with Bayern Munich's medical staff, who have been in constant contact with Spain's staff since the footballer left the pitch at the Spain-England friendly."

Spain visit Belgium on Tuesday as they continues their preparations for the 2016 European Championship, where they will be defending the title.
