Germany team hotel evacuated after bomb threat before France friendly

Germany's team hotel in Paris was evacuated because of a bomb threat ahead of Friday's friendly in France, the team's general manager Oliver Bierhoff confirmed.

The Hotel Molitor said an anonymous caller phoned in the threat at 9:50 a.m. and that members of Germany's squad and all other guests were immediately evacuated.

Police with sniffer dogs went on site to check for potential explosives and a security perimeter was established around the hotel.

"There has been a bomb threat, and the hotel has been cordoned off and evacuated," Bierhoff confirmed to the SID news agency, adding that it was unclear when the team would return.

The 2014 World Cup winners were evacuated at around 11 a.m. and driven to the Roland-Garros compound by two coaches.

Germany forward Lukas Podolski posted a photo on his Twitter account of himself standing on court alongside midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and two other Germany team members.

"We don't know the cause and we hope things will turn out well," media director Ralf Kottker told Express.

Later on Friday, the team returned to the hotel after a search of the building did not reveal any device.

France host Germany at the Stade de France at 9 p.m. CET on Friday.
