Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo could face off in Wales vs. Portugal friendly

Real Madrid teammates Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo could be facing each other next month after Wales manager Chris Coleman revealed an international friendly against Portugal could be on the cards.

Bale, 26, helped Wales reach the finals of the major tournament for the first time in 58 years when they secured a spot at next year's European Championship at the weekend. His teammate at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo, will also be in France as captain of Portugal.

Coleman's side broke into the top 10 of the FIFA World Ranking this year for the first time, with them not playing any friendlies since June 2014 a contributing factor due to the way the points are allocated.

However, with a place among Europe's elite next summer assured, Coleman wants to book a fixture against high-quality opposition to get his side prepared.

"Portugal would be something that we are interested in," he said. "Of course. That would be a good one.

"We're looking at maybe top-10 opposition if we can. It's not always that easy.

"There are a lot of teams on the list but there is nothing, nowhere near being agreed with anyone at the moment.

"Some teams now have different agendas. We have not yet nailed it down but hopefully we will."

Were Wales able to secure an opponent of Portugal's calibre, Coleman is hopeful of staging it at the 72,500-capacity Millennium Stadium, which is more than double the size of their usual home venue of the Cardiff City Stadium.

"Ideally, we want one friendly," he said. "Possibly at the Millennium.

"It would be a good time to play there if it's going to be a bigger crowd.

"If we can get a real good one, real hard game for us at home. It's good for the Welsh nation, and will be good for us as a team."

Bale has told the manager he wants to play in Tuesday night's home clash against Andorra, despite Wales sealing qualification after their match in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday, and Coleman insists that Real Madrid have never made any demands over the use of their player.

"[Wales assistant manager] Osian Roberts got a text from [Real Madrid coach] Rafa Benitez saying: 'Congratulations, well done.' Which was nice.

"There has been no demand from Real Madrid on if he starts, how long he can play. Real Madrid have always been first class with us. I have to say that."
