FIFA world ranking: Germany move up as Spain make return to top 10

World Cup holders Germany have climbed to second place in the latest FIFA world ranking, with Spain making a return to the top 10.

Joachim Low's Germany, who lifted the trophy in Brazil last summer, move up a place and overtake Belgium as they continue to close the gap on leaders Argentina.

Spain, meanwhile, climb five places to sixth, while Portugal rise two to fourth.

Wales, on the verge of qualifying for Euro 2016, are in their highest-ever position of eighth, with the same true of 11th-placed Austria.

Victory over Cyprus and a goalless draw against Israel were enough to move them up one place -- and had they won that second Euro 2016 qualifier they could have been as high as fourth.

It is the sixth time in the last seven rankings that Wales have set a new record.

However, the table shows that both Colombia (down a place in fifth) and Brazil (down two in seventh) have lost ground.

The biggest movers in the top 50 are Norway, who rise 35 places to 34th, while Cape Verde Islands rise 15 places to 41st.

United States drop out of the top 30, falling to 31st, with Gold Cup winners Mexico the top-ranked CONCACAF nation in 28th.
