England will play World Cup-winners Germany in a Berlin friendly next year in the buildup to Euro 2016.

The FA announced that the game would take place at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday, March 26, with kick-off time yet to be confirmed.

A statement on its website said: "Subject to [Euro 2016] qualification, which could theoretically be confirmed this September, the fixture against the world champions will form part of England's preparation for the UEFA Euro 2016 finals in France."

England last played in the German capital in 2008, winning that friendly 2-1 thanks to goals from defenders Matthew Upson and John Terry.

The last time the two sides met at Wembley, in 2013, a goal from Arsenal's Per Mertesacker gave Germany a 1-0 win in another friendly.

And in their most recent competitive fixture, in the 2010 World Cup, Germany won 4-1 in a fixture best remembered for a Frank Lampard goal being ruled out despite the ball being well over the line.
