Latest FIFA World Ranking sees Argentina top above Germany

ZURICH -- Argentina have climbed above Germany to take the top spot in the monthly FIFA World Ranking despite losing another tournament final.

Beaten by Chile in the Copa America final, a year after losing the World Cup final to Germany, Argentina have risen two places to lead the rankings for the first time in seven years. Chile are up eight to No. 11.

Germany have fallen to No. 2, followed by Belgium, Colombia and Netherlands.

On Sunday, ESPN FC revealed Romania and Wales will be the surprise names in the top 10, with the former in eighth and the latter in 10th.

Both will be seeded in the World Cup qualifying draw on July 25 after FIFA confirmed the draw pots will be determined by the latest rankings.

Algeria at No. 19 are the only top-20 team from outside Europe and South America.

Costa Rica lead CONCACAF teams at No. 21. The U.S. drop seven positions to No. 34.

Asia's highest-ranked team are Iran in 38th.
