Chelsea youngster Dominic Solanke trains with England senior squad

Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke trained with the England senior team on Tuesday after collecting the Youth Player of the Year award.

The 17-year-old made his first-team debut for Chelsea in October's Champions League match against Maribor and was given the award for helping the England's under-17s to last year's European Championship.

Solanke, now part of the under-18s set-up, was presented with the trophy as Wayne Rooney collected the England Player of the Year award ahead of a training session the forward joined in with.

"I got told just after breakfast that I might be getting called up to train with the first team and I was just hoping that it would be a yes," Solanke said.

"We were all going down as a squad to watch, then about half an hour before we were going to head over [Under-18s coach] Neil Dewsnip told me that I was going to be training and from then I was just buzzing and really looking forward to it.

"It was a crazy feeling, a mix of excitement and nerves. Obviously, it's all the best players in England so the level was going to be really high. It was a good stage to try and impress as well."

It is not the first time a young player has been brought in to help swell the numbers, which were lessened on Tuesday by the absence of James Milner, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines.

The trio worked in the gym instead of taking part in the session watched by the under-17 and 18 squads.

Uncapped Tottenham duo Ryan Mason and Harry Kane trained with Roy Hodgson's side at St George's Park, although Fabian Delph was absent having not reported for duty yet through illness.

Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana, Fraser Forster and Luke Shaw have all pulled out of Hodgson's initial 24-man squad through injury.

Mason, Robert Green, Jack Butland and Danny Rose have been brought in as replacements.
