USMNT adds DeAndre Yedlin to squad to face Chile in friendly

Tottenham's newly acquired defender DeAndre Yedlin will join the United States national team in South America for Wednesday's friendlyagainst Chile.

A member of last year's American World Cup team, Yedlin transferred to Spurs this month from Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders.

U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann has a 23-man roster for the match in Chile. Yedlin will meet up with 22 players who planned to travel to Santiago on Saturday from Carson, California, where the Americans have been training since Jan. 12.

Six players who had been in the training camp were released to their clubs: goalkeeper Alex Bono (Toronto FC); defenders Christian Dean (Vancouver Whitecaps) and Oscar Sorto (LA Galaxy); midfielder Dennis Flores (Leon); and forwards Tesho Akindele (FC Dallas) and Julio Morales (Tepic).

Liverpool midfielder Marc Pelosi will remain in the Carson area and rejoin the team when it returns ahead of a Feb. 8 exhibition against Panama at Carson.

Nine of the remaining U.S. players were on the World Cup roster. Eight could make their national team debuts: goalkeeper Jon Kempin; defenders Steve Birnbaum, Matt Hedges, Perry Kitchen and Shane O'Neill; midfielders Dillon Seria and Wil Trapp; and forward Gyasi Zardes.
