Thomas Muller: Another Ballon d'Or for Cristiano Ronaldo would be boring

Thomas Muller hopes his Bayern Munich teammate Manuel Neuer will be awarded the 2014 Ballon d'Or, as the Germany international believes that back-to-back accolades for Cristiano Ronaldo would be "a bit boring really."

Muller, 25, did not make the final shortlist for the 2014 Ballon d'Or, despite repeating his five-goal feat from the 2010 World Cup four years later in Brazil this summer.

He has now scored 10 goals in only two tournaments, and has been tipped to break Miroslav Klose's all-time-record of 16 goals.

His hat trick in the opening match against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal got Germany off the ground, and he added one each against the United States and Brazil, where he opened the scoring in the historic 7-1 semifinal against the hosts.

But out of a total of six German World Cup winners only keeper Neuer was nominated as one of three candidates for the 2014 Ballon d'Or, alongside Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and Muller told Sky that he is keeping his fingers crossed for his teammate.

"The Cristiano Ronaldo option would be a bit boring really. I hope that 'Manu' comes out on top," Muller said. "He has my vote, even if it does not count."

The Bayern Munich forward also expressed his shock at Borussia Dortmund's fall from grace, with Jurgen Klopp's side currently bottom of the Bundesliga table following a poor run of form.

"I am not surprised, I am shocked," Muller said. "From the outside you look at the situation in disbelief. It's come as far as that I wish Dortmund every point, because it's important for the German football."
