Germany's Thomas Muller asks to be substituted after collision

VIGO, Spain -- Germany forward Thomas Muller was substituted in Tuesday's friendly in Spain after picking up an apparent back injury.

The Bayern Munich player asked to be substituted in the 22nd minute after trying to return to the pitch following a collision with Sergio Ramos.

Muller had received medical attention on the bench and had returned to play, but only lasted a few minutes before requesting the change.

German broadcaster ARD reported the move was merely precautionary.

Bayern also lost captain Philipp Lahm for up to three months after he broke his right ankle in training with the club earlier on Tuesday.

"In terms of my injury, we'll see what the examination brings tomorrow," Muller said after Germany's 1-0 win. "Philipp's injury was a shock, but you can't turn back time in football; you have to make the best of what you're given."

Pep Guardiola's team are already without the injured Javi Martinez, David Alaba, Thiago Alcantara, Holger Badstuber, Claudio Pizarro and the two backup goalkeepers, Tom Starke and Pepe Reina.
