U.S. withdraws three players from squad

The United States has withdrawn midfielders Michael Bradley and Mix Diskerud and defender Tim Ream from the squad that will face Ukraine on Wednesday in a friendly in Cyprus.

Bradley is preparing for his first season with Toronto FC. He scored for his new club in a preseason exhibition Saturday.

U.S. Soccer said in a release that Bradley "will stay behind to receive treatment for a minor issue" instead of playing for the national team.

Bradley would have been the only MLS-based player to make the trip other than Clint Dempsey, who just completed a loan spell with England's Fulham on Saturday.

The U.S. also said Diskerud would miss out while "returning to full fitness following a right hip injury suffered 10 days ago," but a tweet by Diskerud told a different story.

Diskerud wrote that his club team, Rosenborg in Norway, declined to release him for the friendly.

The U.S. Soccer release did not mention any sort of agreement with the club to retain Diskerud. The Norwegian Tippeligaen season does not begin until the end of March, though Rosenborg has a preseason friendly against a second-division Norwegian team set for Thursday.

Ream, who plays for Bolton in England, was excused for personal reasons, U.S. soccer said.

The U.S. will not replace the three players. The remaining roster for the Ukraine friendly:
