Sheikh Ahmad seeks seat on FIFA executive committee

KUWAIT CITY -- Olympic power broker Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah is seeking election to the FIFA executive committee.

The Kuwait Football Association said on Thursday it nominated Sheikh Ahmad for Asian Football Confederation elections to the FIFA board, scheduled in Bahrain in April.

Sheikh Ahmad has led the influential Olympic Council of Asia since 1991, and his support ensured Bahrain's Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa won the AFC presidency in 2013.

The issue of video replays is on the agenda for the annual meeting of the International FA Board (IFAB) in Belfast on Saturday, and given fresh impetus by another weekend of controversial refereeing incidents in the Barclays Premier League.

Thierry Henry, Zinedine Zidane to be honoured by France before friendly

France coach Didier Deschamps signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him in charge of Les Bleus until the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane will be among a group of former France internationals honoured for having reached 100 caps for their country ahead of Les Bleus' friendly with Brazil next month.

Henry, who appeared 123 times for France, and Zidane, who won 108 caps, will be joined by Patrick Vieira (107) and Marcel Desailly (116) on the Stade de France pitch before kick-off on March 26.
