Liverpool hit hard by 'FIFA virus' with key injuries during October internationals

Liverpool's Naby Keita, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool's Naby Keita, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk all picked up injuries while away with their national teams.

Liverpool will resume their domestic schedule four players lighter following the October international break.

Centre-back Virgil van Dijk, midfielder Naby Keita and forwards Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah all returned to the club's Melwood training ground early to aid their respective recoveries.

Jurgen Klopp's side were already without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain due to a long-term knee injury and James Milner, who was substituted in the first half of the draw against Manchester City before the internaitonal...

Hirving Lozano not the only young talent set to lead Mexico forward

Hirving Lozano of Mexico holds off Chile's Junior Fernandez and Guillermo Maripan.
Hirving Lozano is proving his ability to play at the top level with PSV in the UEFA Champions League.

MEXICO CITY -- At one point during Tuesday night's 1-0 loss to Chile, Hirving Lozano flew down the wing to recover a ball one of his teammates had lost far up the field. Minutes later, he was marking Alexis Sanchez as the Manchester United star attempted to create a chance for his country. Later in the match, Lozano paired with Jesus Gallardo to pressure Chile into turning the ball over in their defensive third.

For most of the match in Queretaro, Mexico's best player was also their most industrious.

U.S. finally has hope in Sargent, Weah and Amon, but youngsters need time

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Building for the future often means navigating through the ups and downs of the present. Such was the case for the U.S. attack in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Peru.

Caretaker manager Dave Sarachan opted to start three teenagers in offensive positions -- Jonathan Amon, Josh Sargent and Tim Weah -- and each of them showed flashes of the kind of ability that has the U.S. fan base, still emotionally scarred from last year's World Cup qualifying failure, clamoring for more.

Amon,...

Disappointing Peru draw a 'big picture' win for the United States - Dave Sarachan

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- United States caretaker manager Dave Sarachan expressed disappointment over this team's 1-1 draw with Peru, but also acknowledged that his youthful side competed well against La Blanquirroja.

Chances were scarce for both sides in the first half, though it was Peru that had the vast majority of possession. But a sharper U.S. team emerged after half-time, and Josh Sargent put the home side ahead in the 49th minute when his deflected effort from Kellyn Acosta's free kick snuck...

Mexico made key strides in respectable last-minute loss to Chile

Here are three thoughts from Mexico's 1-0 loss to Chile in Tuesday's international friendly:

1. Late goal shouldn't overshadow hard-fought match

There was no 7-0 for Chile and there was no revenge for Mexico. Instead, an intense "friendly" between two sides that played as if points were at stake and in which a late Nicolas Castillo goal was the difference.

Mexico goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez looked to be heading for the man-of-the-match after one fine save in each half, but should've done better...
