Michel Platini backs Germany World Cup winner for Ballon d'Or

The ESPN FC panel respond to Louis van Gaal's comments that a German should win this year's Ballon d'Or.

UEFA president Michel Platini has told Efe that he believes a German World Cup winner should be awarded the 2014 Ballon d'Or.

Six Germany internationals have been named on the 23-man 2014 Ballon d'Or shortlist.

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos joined five of his former Bayern Munich teammates -- Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze - on the list which also includes the favourites Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

FIFA executive committee members 'being investigated by Michael Garcia'

FIFA's Secretary General insists ongoing claims of corruption and confusion over the Garcia report have not cost them sponsors.

Three current FIFA executive committee members are under investigation by ethics chief Michael Garcia following his probe into World Cup bidding, the Press Association has reported.

Angel Maria Villar Llona, of Spain, Michel D'Hooghe, of Belgium, and Thailand's Worawi Makudi are among those being investigated for possible ethics code breaches, sources close to the world governing body told PA.

Sony unlikely to back FIFA, but not due to bid concerns, says Jerome Valcke

FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke insists talk of boycotting the 2018 World Cup in Russia is nonsense.

BELFAST, Northern Ireland -- FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke acknowledged on Tuesday that it will take "years to rebuild our reputation'' following the World Cup bidding corruption investigation.

But Valcke insisted that Sony and Emirates Airlines are not ending their FIFA sponsorships to protest against allegations of bribery and favour-seeking that have engulfed world football in the four years since Russia was awarded the 2018 World Cup and Qatar was voted the 2022 hosts.

Report: Sony to end FIFA sponsorship

FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke insists talk of boycotting the 2018 World Cup in Russia is nonsense.

Sony Corp. does not plan to renew its World Cup sponsorship contract with FIFA because of a priority of restructuring within the company as well as concerns over the transparency of the bidding process for 2018 and 2022, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

The move by the Japanese electronics maker would follow Emirates airlines' announcement this month that it was ending its FIFA sponsorship, a blow to the governing body as it investigates whether there was corruption in the bidding...
