Man City fans forced to watch derby on Man United's TV station MUTV

Manchester City fans in the UK will have to pay Manchester United to watch the derby in Houston.

City fans not lucky enough to be in Texas for the first Manchester derby held outside the UK will be forced to subscribe to United's in-house television channel, MUTV, if they want to see it.

ESPN hold the television rights for the International Champions Cup in the United States. MUTV are the only rights holders in the UK.

It costs £7 a month for Sky TV customers to upgrade to MUTV. Fans can also download the newly-launched app and watch the games online.

On Wednesday, City posted an article on their official website explaining that supporters could watch the clash on MUTV. However, the club received so much criticism from fans they were forced to take it down later in the day.

The derby in Houston's 72,000-capacity NRG Stadium will be the second attempt to hold the game outside England.

The two teams, managed by Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, were due to meet in Beijing last summer only for the fixture to be cancelled because of the state of the pitch at the Bird's Nest Stadium.

Heavy rain in the Chinese capital had made the surface unplayable.
