Luis Enrique: Barcelona's U.S. tour a success despite Chelsea loss

Luis Enrique has declared Barcelona's tour of the United States a success after his side's penalty defeat to Chelsea in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.

Despite going down to the Premier League champions, the manager was pleased with how Barca's preseason was progressing.

"We have been able to get playing time against top quality opposition," Luis Enrique said, according to the club's official website.

"We have had the chance to feel the support of lots of fans, who have been the majority in the grounds and we have been able to promote the Club.

"We go back home happy."

Andres Iniesta agreed with his manager, saying that the improvement needs to continue once the squad arrives back in Spain.

"There are positive things and others to improve, like at the start of every season," Iniesta said. "We are still trying to prepare ourselves as best we can through training sessions and matches and, beyond results, I think we have to be positive.

"We have been training 20 days, and everything has to be speeded up because competitive matches are coming so that's what we are doing.

"Once home, we will keep preparing for what's coming, which is important."

After falling behind after an excellent solo effort from Chelsea's Eden Hazard, Luis Enrique's side rallied with goals from Luis Suarez and Sandro. However, Blues centre-back Gary Cahill equalised late on for Jose Mourinho's side, prompting questions about Barcelona's fragility from set-pieces.

"Before this game we had only conceded three corners and conceded two goals," Luis Enrique said. "Last season we improved a lot in that aspect of the game, but this one it will a sore point.

"We are not a tall team. Even so, I prefer to have the kind of players who control the game than tall players for the ball in the air but don't control the game."

Midfielder Sergi Roberto once again was deployed at right-back, and the Barcelona boss was quick to single out the 23-year-old's contribution.

"Physically he is very strong, he is fit as you like, gets up and down and has quality," he said.

"It's another option. You have to remember that a full back at Barca is almost like a midfielder."

The only sour note from the match appeared to be an injury to Barca's Brazilian defender Douglas. Luis Enrique, however, would not be drawn on how long the full-back will be out for.

"The only bad news is the injury to Douglas. Any kind of injury is always sad news."
