ISL scenarios: Advantage Goa as Chennaiyin boost chances for top 4
Goa are now in pole position to seal top spot as ATK slip up against Chennaiyin, who in turn boost their push in that three-way battle for top four. Elsewhere, Bengaluru are out of contention for second place but their playoff berth is guaranteed. Here are all the remaining scenarios this season.
Battle for top spot
Current points - 36
Games remaining - Jamshedpur (A)
ATK's loss to Chennaiyin, at home, means the advantage is well and truly with Goa. Beat or even draw Jamshedpur on February 19 and they will be India's representatives to Asia's premier club competition, the AFC Champions League. Lose, and it will be a nervous wait to see how ATK fare at Bengaluru.
Current points - 33
Games remaining - Bengaluru (A)
A rather surprising 3-1 loss to Chennaiyin at home means they'll have to pray Jamshedpur beat Goa. If they do, a win against Benglauru on February 22 and the top spot is theirs. Anything else, and they'll have to be content with second spot.
Current points - 29
Games remaining - Kerala Blasters (A), ATK (H)
Bengaluru cannot top the league, Goa are already in an unassailable position. Now with their defeat to Kerala Blasters, they are out of contention for second place, taking some sheen off that final match against ATK.
Battle for top four
Mumbai City FC
Current points - 26
Games remaining - Chennaiyin (H)
With Chennaiyin hot on their heels, Mumbai couldn't afford to take their foot off the pedal. A loss to Goa, though, means that the final match with their direct rivals for the last playoff spot becomes a virtual knockout.
Current points - 25
Games remaining - Mumbai City (A), NorthEast United (A)
Chennaiyin's game-in-hand means they still have a chance for this late season charge to end with a flourish. Their win at ATK has given them a massive boost, and that match against Mumbai on February 21 becomes oh, so crucial. Win, and a place in the top four is theirs.
Current points - 24
Games remaining - Kerala Blasters (H)
The team with an outside chance of making it to the top 4. We say outside chance, because for it to happen, the stars need to align so --
a) They win their remaining game b) Mumbai draw against Chennaiyin, and Chennaiyin either lose or draw against NorthEast in their last game. (Odisha lead both Mumbai and Chennaiyin)
