The second leg of the Delhi-Kolkata semifinal was only the second ISL match out of a total of 14 playoff games to go to penalties. The only previous occasion was when FC Goa were beaten 4-2 on penalties after their semifinal against Kolkata finished 0-0 after 210 minutes of play. This shootout also makes Delhi Dynamos the first team to draw a blank in an ISL shootout.

Kerala won the shootout but did lose the game 2-1, thus letting Delhi Dynamos maintain the unprecedented record of staying unbeaten at home throughout the season. This makes Kerala the first team to have lost three playoff matches, moving past Chennaiyin FC, Goa and Delhi in this unenviable record. They next face the team with most wins in playoffs history - Kolkata have three wins in regulation time, one for each season thus far.

Amrinder Singh has the most clean sheets for this season, an unbelievable return for a player who only played six matches all season. The Bengaluru FC goalkeeper was busy with his AFC Cup commitments and could only join Mumbai City FC in the second week of November. Kerala's Sandip Nandy has a chance to catch up with Amrinder, though, if he can keep a clean sheet should he start in goal on Sunday.

Marcelo Pereira finishes the 2016 ISL season as the first player to hit double figures for goals scored. He is unlikely to be overtaken in the final; Atletico de Kolkata's Iain Hume has seven goals, while CK Vineeth has four.

The number of goals scored by Indian players this season. Lalrindika Ralte of Kolkata has been the only Indian scorer in the playoffs this year, which is the lowest ever at this stage of the ISL. Last year there were three goals scored by Indians in the five matches of the playoffs, while the corresponding number in 2014 was five, despite that season having been the lowest-scoring in the ISL.

The total number of goals scored this season is comfortably short of the 186 scored overall last year, though it is better than the 129 that were scored in the first year. The playoffs have produced nine goals already, which is again better than the eight scored in 2014 but well short of the 15 playoffs goals last year.
